Abstract:

The LinkedMusic Project aims to transform music re-search by creating a global digital library that integrates diverse online music databases. Unlike textual search, music search is challenged by varied content formats and incompatible metadata schemas. To address this, we con-vert metadata into RDF and store it in a central graph da-tabase. This infrastructure supports SESEMMI—an open-source, multilingual metasearch engine enabling cross-database SPARQL queries. A key feature is UMIL (Uni-versal Music Instrument Lexicon), a crowdsourced plat-form collecting multilingual instrument names and imag-es to support culturally inclusive searches. SESEMMI applies Linked Data principles and draws on external sources like Wikidata to enrich results. To improve ac-cessibility, Large Language Models translate natural lan-guage into SPARQL queries. By uniting experts in eth-nomusicology, library science, and music information retrieval, LinkedMusic tackles longstanding interoperabil-ity issues. The project enables large-scale, multilingual, and demographically informed music exploration, open-ing new avenues for discovery, analysis, and preservation of global traditions.
